Meet the ARFOP Board: Bess Wallerstein Huff
Bess Wallerstein Huff brings nearly three decades of arts leadership to the ARFOP board, backed by an impressive career in Kansas City’s cultural scene. Bess was instrumental in establishing the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, where she spent over a decade leading marketing and community engagement. She continued to leave her mark on Kansas City’s performing arts scene as Vice President of Marketing + Sales at Starlight.
Her commitment to the arts extends far beyond her job titles. Bess has served on the Johnson County Public Arts Commission, acted as treasurer for the Greater Kansas City Attractions Association, and contributed to the Arts Council of Johnson County and Theatre in Shawnee Mission Park. She also co-founded the Prairie Village Jazz Festival and recently served on the 2025 NEA Challenge America grant panel. A passionate advocate for music access, Bess made history in 2024 by raising nearly $28,000 for Band of Angels—setting a new individual fundraising record.
Bess was introduced to ARFOP through a colleague at an ArtsKC event and was immediately drawn to its mission. “ARFOP represents a perfect blend of the values I hold personally and the areas I’ve focused on professionally,” she says. As a longtime Overland Park resident, she values the role of public art and shared spaces in building strong, joyful communities.
Outside of her professional work, Bess is a creative spirit who enjoys watercolor painting, vintage collecting, estate sales, and hosting neighborhood gatherings. She finds joy in storytelling—through writing, reading, or experiencing live performances—and loves spending meaningful time with family and friends.
With a rich background in marketing, programming, sponsorship, and community engagement, Bess brings invaluable energy, vision, and leadership to the ARFOP board. Her passion for the arts and community is a driving force in helping ARFOP continue to make Overland Park a vibrant place to live, gather, and grow.
