Friends of the Arboretum June Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Summer is in full swing – and so is your Arboretum. In previous months, we recapped all of the great things available to you and your family at the Arboretum. There is just so much to do and see all around us each and every day. From slow walks through the gardens, to hikes up the Bluff Trail and Prairie, to watching the trains run in the Train Garden, to following the butterflies flit and flutter between flowers in Erickson Water Garden, you have tons of options to enjoy.

In addition to all of your favorite things to do in the gardens, there are a few new experiences to try!

First, the Arboretum and Staff will host Summer Movie Nights on the last Friday of June, July and August. LongHouse Visitor Center will open at 7pm on those evenings. We’ll have Food Trucks available (and Café Celeste will be open) offering a wide variety of food and drink options. Games and activities will be available as well on the Great Lawn. The movie will start at about 9pm. Bring your own blankets and chairs to enjoy a big-screen movie under the stars. The great thing is that this is available to you for just the normal admission fee to the Arboretum – which means as MEMBERS, you get in to enjoy the entire evening for FREE. What could be more fun in the summer?

Another new stop in the Arboretum this summer is our newly dedicated Emily Dickinson Garden. This is a quiet retreat between Margaret’s Pond and LongHouse Visitor Center where you can sit and enjoy the views and let the whispers of nature inspire you. While there, try crafting your own poem using the “Poem Rocks” activity. It is a fun and easy way to bring out the creative poet in us all.

Finally, don’t miss all of the classes and activities planned throughout the summer at the Arboretum. There are so many options for you and your family. Check out the full events calendar online or stop by the Guest Services Desk at either LongHouse Visitor Center or the Environmental Education Center and pick up a listing of the fun family activities we have planned throughout the season. You and your family are sure to have fun all season long.
