Slow Down and Reconnect with Nature at the Arboretum

Slowing Down

These are trying times. However, there’s still plenty to be grateful for. Certainly, the pandemic gives us an opportunity to slow down. Having more time to get out and appreciate nature has done wonders for our sanity! Visiting the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is a wonderful refresher. Use the opportunity to unplug from raucous social media and the never-ending news cycle and instead focus on the simple joys of the great outdoors. There are many magical ways to slow down and reconnect with nature at the Arb this winter season. Read all about it in our most recent e-blast!

Gnome and Fairy Villages

Looking for whimsy, playfulness, and a little magic? Come explore the Gnome and Fairy houses along the sculpture loop! The village was designed by four talented artists and one dedicated volunteer. Did you visit them in the dark at the Holiday Luminary Walk? No doubt you missed some amazing details that are worth a second look. Check out our 15-minute video on the “Making of the Mystical Village”. Learn about the artists, what inspires them, and the difference between gnomes and fairies.

Annual Report

We definitely live in interesting times! In other words, 2020 required creativity and resilience on the part of FOTA and the Arboretum staff. That being said, we feel the outcome was still positive. Out of our normal annual fundraisers, only one was a casualty of the pandemic – the Botanical Brewfest. The rest of our events continued on with appropriate adjustments.
