Friends of the Arboretum February Newsletter
Dear Friends,
Congratulations to our Chiefs on a year well-played, AGAIN!
Hopefully, everyone has been able to enjoy this wonderful weather we’ve had recently (then again, any weather over the temps we had in early January is good). This is a perfect time to get outside and enjoy your personal gardens/yards or, even better, get out to the Arboretum. With the arrival of warmer temperatures… our Arboretum staff and volunteers have even started gardening! Some of the gardens planted last fall are even beginning to bud out! I know that you are looking forward to spending more time outdoors just like I am.
You will want to keep in mind many of the upcoming events and programs that we are planning at your Arboretum in the next few months:
Free Admission Day Enjoy free admission from 9am-5pm on the first Tuesday of every month. In addition, these Tuesdays are also our Discovery Days where there is always a fun, instructive activity for the kids brought to you by the Arboretum’s Education Committee.
Tasting Events Join us for our first Wine Tasting on the Terrace of the year on March 21—and for the beer enthusiasts, Biergarten Thursdays are on the calendar with our first event on March 28. These popular events are starting TWO MONTHS earlier this year! You’ll enjoy sampling beverages and food pairings, and perhaps some yard games or live music among the beautiful garden scenery.
Spring Plant Sale Mark your calendar for our Annual Spring Plant Sale in late April. FOTA Members enjoy an exclusive shopping experience one day early on April 25 before shopping opens to the public the weekend of April 26-28. The planning team is making final plant selections and even growing some varieties in our greenhouses that you are sure to enjoy in your garden.
Enchanted Faire Experience a weekend of fantastical fun for the whole family from May 31 through June 2. Don your favorite costume and wander the gardens to meet and greet with costumed characters, music, dance, crafts, and amazing immersive art installations. It’s a summer celebration not to be missed. Tickets coming soon!
One last note, please let all your friends know about the benefits of becoming a member of Friends of the Arboretum. Your membership entitles you to FREE admission through the year to our facility, discounts on most programs and events held at the Arboretum, and discounted (or FREE!) admission to 300+ other Arboretums and Botanical Gardens throughout the United States. It is a great value for individuals and families alike.
Have a great month at your Arboretum!
Mike Hopson,
Co-Chair of the FOTA Advisory Board
