Become a Friend of the Arboretum
Your membership in FOTA supports programs, capital improvements and maintenance of the Arboretum. Benefits include: Free admission to the arboretum during normal operating hours (does not include special events), Plant Sale preview night, FOTA Annual Social Event, Monthly e-Newsletter, other FOTA events as announced, and participation in the Reciprocal Admissions Program sponsored by the American Horticulture Society involving more than 200 gardens and arboretums. Membership Levels: Member ($35, one individual, one card), Dual ($50, two individuals, two cards) and Family ($75, up to six family members, two cards).
The Arboretum has grown as a result of donor assistance. The EEVC (Environmental Education Visitors Center) and the botanical gardens were built as a result of donor contributions. In 2016, 147,000 visitors enjoyed the gardens and trails.
Friends of the Arboretum is part of The Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. All gifts to Friends of the Arboretum are used for the betterment of the Arboretum.

Volunteers assist FOTA and the Arboretum in many ways. Four times a year, volunteer training sessions are held to share information about volunteering and key information about the Arboretum. A comprehensive notebook is provided, which includes the History of the Arboretum, Trail Map and Garden Areas, Calendar of Events, and Frequently Asked Questions. Volunteers take a Safety Class at a later date.

- Friend-raising activities and exhibits
Arboretum volunteer opportunities include:
- Tour guides
- Prairie restoration
- Committees and specialized tasks
- Bird Committee
- Education Committee
- Train Garden Committee
Volunteer benefits include invitations to events such as garden dedications, volunteer appreciation events, and being part of helping the Arboretum grow.
