Woodland Wildflower Walk

Join our two experts as they take you on a walk through the woodlands at the Arboretum to see the vast selection of native wildflowers in bloom. Ken O'Dell specializes in growing native woodland wildflowers and prairie plants and Lynda Ochs is an experienced instructor at JCCC --developing courses such as Environmental Science & Natural History of Kansas. Please wear sturdy shoes as the wood-chipped trails can be uneven and slippery depending on weather. FREE event, SPACE IS LIMITED. Basic Photography for Kids

Children have a unique way of seeing the world. How better to capture that creativity than with a camera? This two-hour workshop will focus on activities that will teach them how to take an interesting photograph. We will practice techniques such as framing, composition, lighting, and camera angle. Any type of camera can be used in this class. Part 1 will be held in the classroom, the remainder of time spent photographing outdoors in the Arboretum. Class fee: $10 per person. Flower photography at its finest! Everyone wants to take beautiful pictures when visiting the Arboretum or --simply in their own backyard. Herbs for Beautiful Skin/The Fountain of Youth

Learn to make bath oils and seaweed bath elixirs. These natural products will help to keep skin soft and flexilbe and re-mineralize the skin. You will learn to use herbs inside and out to help you with wrinkles, fine lines and aches and pains! You will learn how herbs can make you look and feel better. Advanced Flower Photography

This class is deseignated for those who already have a basic understanding of SLR camera operation, exposure and basic composition. This class will explore creative techniques to help you take flower and garden photos that go beyond documentation. Carol Fowler, local photographer and chari of the FOTA Photography Committee, will cover "learning to see", creative abstracts, depth of field, fill-flash, macro photography and other topics. This is a classroom session. Hands-on classes are scheduled throughout the year to work on techniques and skills. Class Fee $10.00 per person. Open House On The Prairie

Join our dedicated group of Prairie volunteers who have been working since 2002 to restore 160 acres of existing Arboretum land, south of Wolf Creek, into native prairie. See the native grasses, wildflowers in bloom, wildlife food plots, Prickly Pear Caactus Glade and prairie birds. This will be a walking tour with stops along the way to learn about each area of the developing prairie. Please dress for heat, sun, wind and unpredictable weather with boots (no open toe shoes or sandals) as the terrain is often uneven. Bottled water recommended. No accommodations for mobility challenged individuals will be available. Each tour group is limited to 12. Please call 913-685-3604 to reserve a time. Tours will start every twenty minutes beginning at 10:00 am. with the last group at 1:00 p.m. Adults only, please. This event is FREE. Parking will be at the Prairie "Old Home Site Entrance Gate," 0.8 miles south of 179th on the west wide of Antioch Road. Follow signs at gate entrance.

OP Council President's Green Space Golf Tournament
